“Return to Workforce” job search workshop on 15 October 2024 had been successfully finished. We had received positive feedback from participants and facilitators.
Janice Kwan, one of the volunteer workshop group facilitators, commented that facilitating the workshop was a deeply insightful experience. It helped her understand the struggles of participants in many faces when trying to rejoin the workforce, especially for moms or middle-aged women feeling uncertain and eager to find work. While she interacted with participants, it became clear how challenging it could be for mothers trying to balance personal responsibilities with the desire to re-enter the job market. Hearing their stories of determination and resilience highlighted the barriers they faced, from skill gaps to societal expectations.
This experience enhanced her empathy and strengthened her commitment to creating a supportive environment. It was crucial to foster a space where participants felt listened to and encouraged. Helping them navigate these challenges was inspiring. She was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these journeys.
Most of the participants commented that the most valuable components of this workshop include AI interview preparation, elevator speech practice, and character testing. These elements were essential for individuals seeking to enhance their job prospects. The AI interview section offered insights into common questions and effective responses, helping candidates feel more confident. Elevator speech practice enabled participants to succinctly communicate their skills and experiences, making a strong first impression. Additionally, character testing helped to identify personal strengths and areas for development, ensuring candidates to present their best selves. Overall, the workshop provided essential knowledge about the current job market, equipping individuals with the tools needed to successfully re-enter the workforce.
