When I first saw this session’s theme, “Everyone is a Salesperson,” I’ll admit—I was skeptical. As a mother buried in nappies and school runs, the word “sales” felt like it belonged to a world far from mine. How wrong I was.
Through trainers Lena and Zoe, I discovered we’re all “selling” daily—just under warmer names like “sharing” and “persuading.” Every time we convince a child to eat vegetables or negotiate bedtime, we’re delivering a pitch.
The session opened with a startling truth: the human attention span is now just 8 to 12 seconds. Whether pitching to investors or asking a toddler to take one more bite, we have moments to connect. That’s the essence of the “elevator pitch”—being ready anytime, anywhere, with a message that lands in under a minute.
The most valuable lesson was the “one-sentence pitch formula.” A compelling introduction must answer: What do you offer? Who is it for? What problem do you solve? What’s your secret sauce? The trainers warned against empty superlatives like “best” or “only”—they signal inexperience. They also stressed avoiding jargon so anyone can understand instantly. I caught myself wondering: how often do I use words my children don’t grasp?
We then learned the “And-But-Solution-So What” framework—paint the vision, name the obstacle, present your solution, then call to action. A powerful pitch is simply a sincere story, well told. When we stop “selling” and start genuinely helping, authenticity does the work.
The deepest insight? Selling isn’t technique—it’s mindset. Whether serving clients or guiding children, the core is understanding needs and communicating value in language others can embrace.
Leaving class, I felt eager to practice. Next bedtime negotiation with my daughter, I might try a thirty-second elevator pitch on why sleep matters. After all, the best sales happen when we help others see value they hadn’t noticed before.
