It is a great honour to be a fellow of 2025-2026 Moms4Moms Fellowship Program, and I eagerly welcomed the October sessions. The core theme for the first two weeks, “Design Thinking,” opened up a whole new perspective for me.
Before attending the course, I didn’t have a concrete blueprint for starting a business. It was precisely with this desire to explore that I immersed myself fully in the classes. Through mentor Terry’s in-depth explanations and sharing of his personal experiences, I gained a profound understanding of the essence of entrepreneurship—”human-centricity.” Whether it’s a product or a service, it should directly address the core needs of users and provide thoughtful solutions. In the first session, we engaged in discussions on the “functions of winter clothing.” Beyond focusing on materials, appearance, and colour, my classmates contributed many ingenious ideas drawn from life experiences, such as adding practical pockets or enhancing neck warmth. These insights made me realize that exceptional design often lies in the subtle details.
The post-class exercises guided me onto a path of practical exploration. I am very grateful to the mentor for introducing us to three key tools: 1) Idea Box, for organizing the characteristics of the target audience; 2) Persona, for depicting the profile, needs, and pain points of target users; and 3) Competitive Analysis. These exercises not only objectively validated the feasibility of my plan but also helped me understand that entrepreneurship cannot merely be about building a personal dream kingdom. Instead, it requires practical research (for which I interviewed several friends) and rational analysis to ensure ideas can be implemented steadily.
The second session delved deeper into design thinking. We learned how to refine an initial idea through iterative validation, prototyping, and pilot testing, gradually bringing it closer to the realities of the market.
I particularly enjoyed the group game during the class. When the mentor asked us to list “functions of a water bottle” within three minutes, the creativity of my classmates was full of surprises: Feng Shui ornament, self-defense weapon, insect trap, and even an emergency lighting device. These out-of-the-box ideas served as the best reminder: never limit your thinking, as the wildest inspirations often harbour breakthrough opportunities.
Besides, it was inspiring to witness my classmates turn their ideas into action. During the session, some already confidently presented prototypes of her products or services. This process of moving from “thinking” to “doing” provided me with immense encouragement and heightened my anticipation for the future outcomes of the entire program.
These two substantial sessions have provided me with clear goals for structuring my entrepreneurial plan. I sincerely wish every mentee can find their own new direction here. Let’s join hands and embark on this new entrepreneurial journey toward even more remarkable milestones!
