As a recent Moms4Moms graduate, Wayi took her first step in applying what she learned during the fellowship. She supported two experienced alumni facilitators: Fan Chu, a professional storyteller, and Joanne Wong, a picture book illustrator at Nam Cheong Station. That was one of the three sessions of parent‑child storytelling and art workshops for MTR employees and their children in various MTR stations, held in May to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Joanne Wong: “Unique Drawings, Happy Families – That’s Our Reward”
Joanne shared that the workshops were designed to honour mothers and caregivers for Mother’s Day. They read the story “My Mom is a Tiger!” by Kate Claxton. After some fun animal‑guessing games, the families made a fold‑out card featuring cute adult and baby animals for their parents to enjoy.
“It was great to see everyone’s unique drawing style and creative ideas. We hope the families had a great time with us – we certainly did with them!”
Fan Chu: “I Was Nervous. Then I Remembered – My Daughter Always Listens.”
Fan admitted that when HKM first invited her to be a storyteller, she felt a bit overwhelmed.
“I thought there were many other mothers who tell stories better than I do. I felt like I didn’t belong on such a stage.”
But she decided to take the rare opportunity and give it a try. From choosing the book to sharing the story, leading warm‑up games, and arranging the craft session – June Lee, HKM’s Partnerships and Programmes Director worked with Joanne and Fan together and everything came together smoothly.
“I am truly grateful. I hope the families who joined us enjoyed the story of the ‘Tiger Mom’!”
Fan also shared the origin of her love for storytelling. It started with her daughter. Since her daughter was born, Fan has tried to set aside time every day to read storybooks together – their special parent‑child time.
“No matter whether my storytelling sounds good or not, my daughter is always my most loyal listener. Slowly, I grew to love discovering and appreciating different picture books, and sharing them with the children around me.”
Through this workshop, Fan’s confidence grew again.
“It made me believe that every mother (and father!) can be a great storyteller, and that stories can bless many more people.”
Wayi Wong: “One Workshop Convinced Me – Mom‑Led Impact Is Real”
As a fresh graduate of the Moms4Moms Fellowship Program, Wayi felt deeply that she was witnessing the power of mom‑driven entrepreneurship. This storytelling and art workshop was her first attempt to turn what she had learned into real impact.
“I am so grateful to my two senior alumnae who led by example. One is Fan, a professional storyteller. The other is Joanne, a picture book illustrator. Their rich experience and creativity poured soul into the event.”
The workshops attracted many MTR families. Everyone immersed themselves in the warm story of My Mom is a Tiger!, experiencing love and imagination through interactive games, craft making, and parent‑child reading.
“Seeing the focused eyes of the children, the knowing smiles of the parents – I became even more convinced: when a mother’s professional skills meet her sensitivity to parent‑child connection, she can build a truly meaningful business.”
For Wayi, this was never just a storytelling session.
“It was a beautiful moment to connect families and spread warmth.”
She closed with heartfelt thanks: to HKM for the training, to Fan and Joanne for their leadership, and to every MTR parent and child who joined them.
“I will continue to prove, through action, that the power of entrepreneurial mothers can bring more positive energy to society.”
